Who Is Watching

Who Is Watching

Who Is Watching — Wer beobachtet? is a photographic series about the gaze, staging, and self-assertion. The five photographs depict the same figure in various poses: at times sensual and ambivalent, at times defiant and confident. Latex, a cat mask, high heels, and the props—a white chess piece, a camera, and furniture—function as visual codes. Red lipstick, smeared like blood, forms a sharp contrast to the dark visual world and alludes to both vulnerability and performance.

What’s important is that the figure remains constantly present in the image; rather than disappearing, it alters the perspective—it reverses the gaze, thereby challenging the viewer’s role and shifting the balance of power. The series explores how identity is constructed through clothing, gestures, and objects, and how quickly judgments arise from attributions. Technically, the works are executed as controlled studio shots with a deliberately reduced color palette and precise lighting. Formally, the project operates at the intersection of fashion, portrait, and conceptual photography.

"Who Is Watching" invites collectors, curators, and viewers to discuss voyeurism, self-presentation, and the mechanics of seeing. Editions, print formats, and framing options are arranged on a case-by-case basis.

Photographer, traveler, motorcyclist, entrepreneur I set off for a better world. When I reached my destination, I realized that I was back where I started my journey. Everything was the same, only I had changed. Many thanks to @karl_knerr_fotografie for the beautiful portrait.
