The Anti-DicTators are a collaboration of like-minded musicians who are appalled by what is happening in Ukraine and want to help in their own small way to generate awareness and money for a relief fund (details below). The Anti-DicTators consist of Phil Meadley, Yuriy Gurzhy, Jon Sevink (Levellers), Tom Robinson, and singer Katya Tasheva. Yuriy is a Ukrainian who moved to Berlin at the age of 20. He works as a musician, DJ, producer, editor, and acclaimed author. His war diary was recently published in the German daily newspaper DER TAGESSPIEGEL.
The song lyrics are based on the story of Ukrainian soldiers on Snake Island in the early days of the Russian invasion, who responded with "Russian warship, go f**k yourself!" when asked to surrender by the Russian commander. This quote has become a cry of resistance for Ukrainians, and the slogan was even printed on a postage stamp to honor the soldiers' bravery.
Yuriy says, "We are shocked and hurt when we see what is happening in Ukraine, how brutally Russia is wiping out entire towns and villages. The Ukrainians are fighting back like superheroes. Even if the outcome is unfair, the war will soon be over and every pound, euro, and dollar donated up to that point will be needed. So let's join the helpers and ask you to donate to the Ukraine Trust Chain. This organization brings direct aid to Ukraine and helps with evacuations in the active war zone on the ground. Support us by purchasing the song, which will teach you the most important phrase in Russian right now in three minutes."
The song was first released on the band's own Bandcamp page,anti-dicktators.bandcamp.com, and then by Trikont as a digital single.
All proceeds go directly to the Ukrainian Trust Chain, a network of volunteer teams who provide food, medical care, and transportation out of Ukraine.
